Thanasis

The Thanasis faith is a pursuit of immortality and dominance over death itself. Its followers view death not as an end, but as the next, eternal phase of existence. They seek to control this transition, using disease, discord, and disaster as tools to bring others; and themselves; closer to this "enlightenment." While they respect the cycle of death as an ordered force, their goal is selfish dominion over it. Life is seen as a fleeting moment; true power lies in mastering what comes after. Those who do not seek this understanding are considered mere experiments or fodder.

Life is merely a fleeting aspect of existence to be conquered. - Live and learn. In death, the eternal is found. - The only truth found is what you can find through determination and factual evidence. That doesn't mean you have to share it, hold truth close. - Everything dies in the end. Enjoy your time while you have it, and ensure that time does die when you do. - Know yourself. Only then can you master the life that comes after death.

The faith was founded by a zealous cleric who refused to accept death as a final end. Initially preaching broadly, they eventually focused on teaching only those who sought true enlightenment. The name "Thanasis" reflects their core goal: dominance over death (Thanatos). While Kasimir, the god of deception and dominance, is seen as a related progeny of Sheylynn, the Thanasis faith is devoted to Seir. They pursue a selfish path of power and self-preservation, which Seir respects and bolsters. Followers seek immortality and control over the nature of life and what lies beyond, viewing the unenlightened as test subjects in their grand quest for understanding.

They are not necessarily an enemy nor an ally to any faith, empire, race, nor ethos. They have a loose alliance with Kasimir due to the connection between Sheylynn and Seir.

They typically celebrate Death's Door. Their practices generally include funeral rites and last rites for the dead.

Despite their faith being seen as an entity to be wary of, they do generally believe in helping shepherd the dead to their final resting place. This, in a selfish way, proves to themselves that their right in something existing after death.

Thanarion - Death's Noble Evoker, the head of Thanasis. They invoke and evoke death, fully understanding it and standing by Seir's side. Nemoris - The Sacred Grove of Death. They stand at the top as well, just below the leader, but support him and those who know death. Pallivar - The Pallid Knights are the military wing of Thanasis and Seir. They wield their strength to ensure that Thanasis is protected and to bring dominant to the unbelievers for their Masters. Vescellant - The restless devourers are those who are seeking to learn the ways of death. They climb and claw for rank, learning to prove their worth.

To join the faith, one typically only needs to find a member of the Thanasis faith or worship Seir himself. Someone from the faith will typically seek out those at least curious to guide them towards enlightenment. The uninitiated should always be aware not to fall prey to being led astray into some horrific experience that would end their path prematurely. This in an of itself is a test if and when conducted.
